About Me, Elizabeth
Education and Clinical Experience
I have been specializing in the treatment of eating and mood disorders as a therapist for 5 years. Prior to that, I was an eating disorder support group leader and educator at Indiana University where I attended and obtained my undergraduate degree. I went to Argosy University in Atlanta, Georgia where I received my Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology. I have obtained clinical experience as a therapist at the Atlanta Center for Eating Disorders and Rogers Memorial Hospital.
My private practice opened in downtown Milwaukee, WI, located on Water Street in the Third Ward in February of 2008. Just recently, I have opened a second office located in Northfield, IL, a northern suburb of Chicago which is close to Northwestern University, New Trier High School, and Old Orchard Mall.
In the fall, I began co-leading an eating disorder support group located at Marquette University for students.
In my free time, I enjoy spending quality time with friends and family, horseback riding, reading historical fiction, and volunteering for Special Olympics.
Treatment Philosophy and Modalities
Often, people feel overwhelmed and overtaken by their depression, eating disorder, or anxiety. You may feel like your identity is rooted in the struggle that you are experiencing. I think it is essential to not only treat your present struggle, but to nurture and/or develop the person that you are.
My strengths as a counselor are providing support, a listening and compassionate ear, encouragement, and genuineness. I believe in meeting each individual that comes into my office where they are at in their recovery process and life.
I do not believe there is one method of treatment that works for everyone. Rather, I use a variety of techniques in order to find what works best for you. That being said, I do believe in first using therapies that have been shown to be effective. For example, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has demonstrated an ability to be effective for treating eating disorders, depression, and anxiety disorders. Additionally, I focus a lot on relationships as I think we all, as people, function best when we know that we are cared for, loved, and connected to others.
I offer my services to you for individual and/or family therapy. Additionally, I lead a free support group at Marquette University for students.
